Alarming Video Captures Point Officers Suffer Blade Attacks in Surprise Attack
One senior officer that leaped to the help of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Valor.
Sgt Tim Ansell struggled against 27-yr-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a blade to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.
"Officer stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera recording made public by the force revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a head covered, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.
He collided with the officer who tripped and went down to the street, before Sgt Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the pavement even though being multiple times hit with the knife.
PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a safe opportunity, concluding the struggle to an finish.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "I need help on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the neck."
Sgt Ansell received multiple deep cuts to his neck and additional wounds to his arms and torso, whereas Sergeant Foster suffered knife wounds.
Officials reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to control his partner's blood loss prior to medical personnel arrived.
The latest award follows after the law enforcement team received organizational Courage Honors in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area officer association in April 2024.
They were also awarded a Regional Courage Honor in mid-2024.
"The responses of all three officers in the end saved one another and resulted in no bystanders experienced any wounds."
Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
