Labuschagne Dropped from Australian ODI Squad Against India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-match ODI series against India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected call-up.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI side following managing only a single run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has played 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia seek a answer to their top-order woes.

Pace Returns and Fitness News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since excelling for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-match series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a 2-0 series win last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
